Mr. Roderic Bynum

Roderic Bynum , who was affectionately known as "Rico", was born on March 4, 1957 to the late Virgil and Dorothy Bynum. Rico grew up on Detroit's westside in the Russell Woods Park area on Buena Vista Street where he was held in high regard throughout the neighborhood. Rico was the youngest of six children; four of his siblings preceded him in death, Virgil, Carolyn, Diane, and Bernadine. Rico attended Winterhalter Middle School and from there he went on to Chadsey High School, where he excelled in football. Rico was recruited to play at the collegiate level. Legend has it that a recruiter from University of Alabama came to do an in-home visit and Rico never showed up, that was Rico, he did things his way. Rico graduated from Chadsey in 1976 and began working for Ford Motor Company in 1977, continuing there until his retirement. Rico married his high school sweetheart, Andrea. To this union two sons were born, Durand and Darien. He later welcomed a beautiful daughter Ariel and another son Jahlil. He loved spending time with his children and especially his grandchildren. he was a great dresser and definitely had his own style. He loved sports especially football and basketball. That love was passed on to his sons. He had a gift to talk or run his mouth, most people would say. He also made people smile and laugh. He was the type of person you were always happy to see, because you knew his positive energy would rub off on you. His charm and charisma is ultimately why everyone loved Rico. On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, Rico was summoned to rest in the arms of the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory, his three sons Durand Roderic, Darien Rico (La'toria), and Jahlil Andre Bynum; one loving daughter, Ariel Chanel Bynum; his sister, Shirly Jones; grandchildren, Aujanae, D'Nya, Durand Jr., Aujah, Jeremy, Jayden, Lucy, Josiah, and Kinsley; his neices Carmen and Alesha Ciminieri (Jonathan); nephews, Maurice, JaVaughn Jones (Dawanna), DeVonte, and Devon; a great aunt, Bernice Lynch (Marvin) and a great uncle,Willie Evans (Patricia) and a host of great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
