Chynna Garland-Shepherd

Chynna Summer Rai Garland -Shepherd was born on August 31, 1995 to LaRai Posey and Anthony Shepherd in Detroit, Ml. Chynna attended John F. Kennedy and Coolidge Elementary School, Ferndale Middle School, then Ferndale High School-from which she graduated and received her diploma in 2013. Throughout high school, Chynna played basketball, ran cross country, cheered for the varsity team, and danced. Then, as if Chynna hadn't shined enough, she attended Ferndale's cosmetology school and Jackson Community College, which offered Chynna a track scholarship. After attending Jackson College, she went to Lansing Community College; later Chynna became a substitute teacher. During that time, she began her journey into motherhood and gave birth to her one and only child, David Maurice Kaine Kirkland on June 4, 2016. After attending cosmetology school, Chynna put her skills to impeccable use. She was often asked to do people's hair and makeup, a testament to her talent and reputation. Chynna never left the house without looking flawless-like a Chynna doll. She always carried herself with confidence and looked like a model wherever she went. Chynna was a devoted mother who cherished her only child David. Chynna was a loving, caring and attentive aunt. "Cha Cha", as she was affectionately known, was adored by all of her nieces and nephews. Chynna's doors were always open and she was always there for those in need. She became a homeowner June of 2020, and was very proud of her accomplishment! Chynna was a dedicated healthcare professional who worked in the medical field as a certified nurse assistant. Her compassion and commitment to caring for others shown brightly throughout her career, especially during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chynna was deeply nurturing, always putting others first and providing comfort and care to those in need. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. Chynna also had vibrant aspirations of becoming her own boss, which led her to step into the world of entrepreneurship. She launched her own company, Maid In Chynna, where she showcased her exceptional skills as a cleaner and organizer. With her sharp eye for detail and strong work ethic, Chynna brought the same level of passion and professionalism to her business as she did to her beauty work. Chynna loved life and lived it to the fullest, she was always the life of the party! Chynna had a fun-loving soul, a joyful presence and smile that lit up every room. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, but nothing meant more to her than being a mother. David was the center of her world, her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. Chynna was a wonderful, devoted mother who poured her heart into creating special moments for her son, especially during celebrations. They were legendary filled with love, laughter, and incredible food. A talented cook, Chynna's meals brought people together and were a source of comfort and happiness to everyone who had the pleasure of enjoying them. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She will be remembered always for her kindness, laughter, bright smile and the immense love she gave so freely. Chynna departed this life on October 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Felix and Ruby Garland, and her uncles, Felix Il and Marc Garland. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her Mother, LaRai (Leonard) Father Anthony; beloved son David; seven siblings - Rubi, Anthony (Sarah), Araina (Sherrod), Kristian, Akai, Annie, and Jasmine; nine cherished nieces and nephews - Trent, Tristan, Amaru, Soncerai, Kaida, Alina, Ava, Amyah, and Jai; partner Shawn, best friends Brianna, Azian, and Danielle; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
