Alice Marie Davis

Alice Marie Nealy was born April 5, 1935, in Cerro Gordo, North Carolina, to her parents, James and Sarah Nealy. Alice attended the North Carolina Public School System and completed several business college courses as well. Alice married Alexander Davis (deceased) in 1957. She brought two girls with her to this union and two more girls were born during this union. Alice transferred from the U.S. Post Office in Philadelphia to the Detroit Post Office on Fort Street in 1966. She was employed with the Federal Postal System for 30 years. Starting as a clerk and retiring as a Postal Supervisor in 1992. After retiring she lived in five states- North and South Carolina, Indiana, Nevada, and Michigan. Alice was a world traveler, traveling with family and friends. She was known as a walking ancestry.com because she knew all the dates of births, marriages, divorces, deaths, etc. of relatives past and present. Her favorite sport was basketball, her favorite teams were the Philly 76’ers, Boston Celtics, and the Golden State Warriors. Throughout her life she really enjoyed fishing, sewing, crocheting, playing bid wiz and her crossword puzzles. She was known as “Marie” to her family, Mommy or Mom to her daughters, and “Ree”, Grandma or Grandma “Ree” to her grand and great grandchildren. Marie was a wonderful daughter and caregiver to both of her parents. She was an outstanding mom, raising four daughters as a single parent. She was a loving grandmother with a special place in her heart for each grandchild. She cared deeply for her son-in-laws, for truly they were her sons. She was a devoted and loyal sister, niece, cousin, and friend. She cherished her time with family and friends in person or over the phone. Alice accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Cerro Gordo. She was a member of the Church Group in the Senior Citizen Complex where she lived, in Las Vegas, NV. When she moved back to Michigan in 2023, she joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church of Southfield. Alice departed this life on November 14, 2024 at Henry Ford Hospital, West Bloomfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Ralph Coleman. Her memories will live on in: her children, Yasma of Las Vegas, NV, Jolvis (Clinton) of Farmington Hills, MI, Regina (Darrell) of Mesquite, NV, and Robbin (Vincent) of Southfield, MI; grandchildren: Sean (Apryl), Carla, Sara, Christopher (Lakesha), Gabrielle, Raquel (James), Jeremy (Serena) and Darrell (April);great grandchildren: Khyla, Trevon, Tyrek, Sean II, Asia, Zachary, Cooper, Brendon, Caleb, Renee, Asher, Maliko, and Adonis; great great-grandchildren: Al’ Vonia, Arii, Savii, and Alori. She also has 13 other grandchildren by marriage. A special group of cousins like sisters- Shirley, Queen, Geneva, Berta, and Verneva, and a host of other close cousins and friends.
