Thomas Gordon

Thomas Gordon, 91 passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, at his home in Detroit, Michigan. He was born on September 5, 1933, in Cordele, Georgia to Robert Dillard and Maggie Gordon. Thomas’ mother passed when he was just a year old. Thomas's grandparents, William and Charity Gordon sent his Aunt Essie Bell and her husband A.D Rouse to bring Thomas and his sisters Rosalyn and Pauline to Detroit. His oldest sister Dorothy was raised by relatives on his father’s side. Thomas’s grandparents raised Thomas and his sister Pauline with his first cousins Orville and Leonard (both Deceased) as brothers and sisters. Thomas attended Washington Trade School in Detroit, where he learned how to use his hands. He excelled in welding and metalwork. Thomas was so good when he saw something, he could duplicate it to perfection. Thomas became our George Washington Carver, Thomas Edison, and Katherine Johnson. Some of his creations and artwork include Gas Bar B Q grills, king-size headboards, wrought iron driveway gates, etc. He made things perfect and guaranteed not to break. We not only saw him as a creative specialist but also as an engineer and a gifted artist. While living on the north end Thomas met and fell in love with Carol Joan Kemp before joining the military. While in the military Thomas called back home and asked Carol and her parents if he could marry their daughter. The answer was yes. Thomas and Carol were married on October 17, 1952. Thomas returned to complete his commitment to military service where he spent time in Germany. While in Germany Thomas was promoted to oversee the welding shop where he received numerous awards and certificates. Upon completing his military duty, Thomas worked various jobs until he landed a job as a welder for the government at Selfridge Air Force Base. He soon became a metal processing specialist. Thomas and Carol were married for 73 years. To this union (4) children were born (2 Daughters) Gernottia Sabrina, Lucia Patrice (2 Sons) Thomas Menderois, (Zarrick Ronriquez-Deceased). He leaves to cherish his memories Wife- Carol, Daughter-Gernottia Sabrina Jones, Husband -Edward Jones, Daughter- Lucia Patrice Gordon- Swims, Son- Thomas Menderois, Wife- Kathleen Gordon, Grand Children – Christopher Edward Jones, Nykolas Maurice Jones, Leslie Renee Jones, Adam Gordon Swims, Alexander Zarrick Gordon, Great Grand Children Anayah Nykole, Kennedy Jae. Along with a host of nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
