Patricia Smith

Beloved Patricia Delores Smith was born in Spartanburg South Carolina to the union of Arthur Dean Anderson and Leatha Angenette Johnson on February 16, 1939. She was the oldest of two children and survived by her brother Arthur Anderson. Patricia (Pat) Smith at an early age demonstrated a zeal for educational learning and significant proficiency with the piano. Always at the top of her class. She moved with her family to Highland Park Michigan in 1950 where her greater family and joined Greater New Mount Morriah Church and played the piano. Graduating from Highland Park Highschool in 1957 with honors, she went on to obtain a Bachelors degree in Education and Masters degree in Psychology from Wayne State University. Pat and Mark had two sons Mark Hanna Smith III and Kevin Andrew Smith; and one daughter Katrina Michelle Smith. She was an active mother supporting her children through many organizations such as Jack and Jill Inc., Tots and Teens Inc, CISV, and many others. She worked tirelessly with her husband on building a property management company and was an active member of her sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated, the Links Incorporated, and many other organizations including being an active member and supporter of the Charles H. Wright African American History museum. She was an avid art enthusiast engaging many African American artists local to the Detroit area. One of her greatest joys for many years was supporting the Penn Center at St. Helena Island in South Carolina educating people on the historical significance of the Gulluh and Geechee people in South Carolina and of it being one of the first schools for educating former slaves in 1862 before the conclusion to the Civil War. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP and Urban league devoting much of her time to further those causes. She was a deeply caring person who lived by the motto "Actions speak louder than words" and engaging supporting the Civil Rights movement to make the world a better place for all children and grandchildren to come. She came to Patricia departed this life after a protracted illness on Wednesday October 11th, 2023. She leaves to rejoice in her memory her sons, Kevin and Mark Smith, her brother Dr. Arthur D. Anderson, two grandchildren, Benjamin Alexander Smith and Olivia Jocelyn Smith, her cousin McConnell Trap, and a host of relatives and friends who will dearly miss her.
