Nannette C. Howard

Nannette C. Howard, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and dedicated educator, peacefully transitioned on March 15, 2025 at the age of 82. Born on November 6, 1942, in Braden, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of the late Burt and Mary Johnson. Nannette’s passion for education led her to Tennessee State University, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. With a heart for teaching and a desire to shape young minds, she dedicated 30 years to the Detroit Public Schools, leaving an indelible impact on countless students. In 1966, she married the love of her life, Willie Frank Howard Jr., and together they built a beautiful life rooted in love, faith, and family. Their journey led them to Detroit in 1968, where they raised their son, Quenton Dennard Howard. Nannette’s joy multiplied as she welcomed her daughter-in-law, Patrice Howard (Snowden), into the family, and later, her two treasured grandchildren, Skylar and Bryce Howard, who became the light of her life. A woman of unwavering faith, Nannette was a lifelong member of her church’s Usher Ministry, serving with grace and a warm smile that welcomed many through the doors of worship. She found joy in traveling alongside her beloved husband, sharing new experiences, and creating lasting memories. Above all, she lived for her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness. Nannette is reunited in eternal rest with her parents and is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Willie Frank Howard Jr.; her loving son and daughter-in-law, Quenton and Patrice Howard; her adored grandchildren, Skylar and Bryce; her dear brother, Willie Johnson; and a host of extended family and friends who were blessed to know her kindness and love. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and dedication to family and education will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever remain in our hearts. A celebration of Nannette’s life will be held on March 21, 2025 at John Wesley AME Zion Church at 28001 Evergreen Rd. in Southfield, MI. Rest well, Nannette.
