Mildred Queen Crawford

Mildred Queen Crawford was born on October 16, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Beatrice and Holmur. From a young age, Mildred found comfort and purpose in her faith, accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She became a member of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, where her devotion to her faith and community flourished. She attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Northwestern High School. Mildred would later go on to complete her education at Wayne County Community College majoring in Interior Design. In June 1949, Mildred entered into holy matrimony , officiated by the late Reverend Charles A. Hill of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church. From this sacred union, two sons were born. Mildred exemplified devotion as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend throughout her life, leaving an enduring legacy of love and familial warmth. In October 1947, Mildred joined Michigan Bell Company as a Hello Girl, becoming one of the first African American women to work there. She later retired early to prioritize caring for her husband and children. Mildred's legacy is one of breaking barriers at work and embodying unwavering dedication to her family. Mildred lived a rich life, known for her timeless style and class. A true trendsetter, she had a quiet charm that could outshine anyone in conversation. She found joy in simple pleasures—shopping, attending plays, and spending quality time with family and close friends. Mildred was not only a pillar of grace but also a generous spirit. She gave back to her community through block club associations and donations to various organizations. Her legacy is one of elegance, warmth, and a genuine love for both family and community. Mildred departed this life in her home Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in the same manner in which she lived her life, quiet and peaceful. To cherish her memory she leaves her loving son who never left her side, , grandson , granddaughter, niece , great- granddaughter , great- grandson , daughter-in-law , sister-in-law , caregiver and friend , and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
