LIFE REFLECTIONS REMEMBERING “Johnnie Mae Woods” “…The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1) Mrs. Johnnie Mae Woods was born on August 10, 1937, in Carlisle, West Virginia, to the parentage of the late Mildred Williams and Nathaniel Martin. Johnnie moved from Mount Hope, West Virginia, at age 12 and was educated in the Detroit Michigan School System, graduating from Chadsey High School. She worked many years as a Sales Associate for LaSalle Distributors. Johnnie was a woman who loved God and had a very strong sense of family values, nurturing her three beautiful children and grandchildren. Johnnie married the “Man” of her dreams, “Andrew,” united for 60-plus years. Johnnie was affectionately called “First Lady” by her in-laws, the Woods family. Johnnie’s favorite pastime hobbies included traveling with her husband and going to the Casino with her sisters and cousin. She was an expert in cooking good soul food, especially her delicious signature Lemon Meringue Pie. She was a member of Echoes of Revelation Church and enjoyed going to service with her cousin Susan and Susan’s husband, Jodie. Johnnie was highly favored, beautiful, and a humble-spirited lady who enjoyed life fully. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred Williams and Nathaniel Martin. Her in-laws, whom she affectionately called Mom and Dad, Alexander and Mary F. Woods. Her loving husband, Andrew Woods, a son-in-law, Bobbie McBride, a sister, Lavern Williams, and brothers-in-law: Lee Williams, Sylvester Clay, Chester Woods, and James Woods. On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Johnnie's spirit and soul entered into heaven after a short illness at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, MI, surrounded by family. Left with her everlasting memories: her loving three children: Andrea McBride and her son Justin of Detroit, MI.; Andrew Woods Jr., his two sons Andrew, Devon and his daughter Ciera, Detroit, MI.; Leslie Elrod, husband Dr. Roy Elrod and their two sons Christopher, Jonathan, and daughter Bria, Detroit, MI.; siblings: Carol Williams, Cheryl Clay, and Thelmia Williams; Sisters in law: Azzietta W. Iriving, Atlanta, GA., Martha Flournoy, Detroit, MI, Joyce Woods, Detroit, MI, Mary E. Woods, Stone Mountain, GA, Beverly V. Woods, Buena Vista, GA, Dianne W. Patterson, Macon, GA., Brothers in Law: Eddie Woods, Buena Vista, GA., Felton (Gussearl) Woods, Decatur, GA., Willie C. (Mary A.)Woods, Atlanta, GA., Daniel (Joyce) Woods, Stone Mountain, GA., Paul (Sandra)Woods, Atlanta, GA., Roger (Teya)Woods, Chesapeake, VA. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
