Jerry Montgomery

Jerry Montgomery was born April 8, 1934 in Thomasville, Alabama to the late State and Adelia Montgomery. Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful Christian all of his life. He was a member of the Historic People’s Community Church family. Jerry attended the Detroit Public School System, graduating from Miller High School in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Wayne State University. Jerry later served in the United States Army from December 1956 and was honorably discharged in December 1958. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, and received the Sharpshooter (Carbine) and Marksman (Rifle) commendations while serving. Jerry became a professional clothing model, teacher, buyer and retail manager. He worked at Hughes and Hatcher as a store manager. He retired from Macys, Incorporated. Jerry has three sons from a previous union; Jerry Montgomery Jr., Darrone Montgomery, and Eris Montgomery. He was joined in holy matrimony with Marilyn Montgomery on July 11, 1981. To this union two children were born; Jennifer Lynn Simmons and Kimberly Joy Slaughter. Jerry loved to read and study the Bible. He had many conversations with his children, friends and neighbors regarding the Bible. Jerry traveled extensively as a young adult and enjoyed visiting many exciting places in and out of the country. He also loved working in the yard; mowing the lawn and trimming hedges to perfection. Our Beloved Jerry, through the infinite wisdom of God, was called home to eternal rest on April 30, 2020 at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. Jerry is preceded in death by his father State and mother Adelia; his brother Henry Montgomery; and his sisters Minnie Ridout, Adele Dismukes and Willimena Wilson. Jerry leaves to cherish wonderful memories of him by his wife, Marilyn; five children, Jerry Montgomery Jr. (Tracy), Darrone Montgomery (Katina), Eris Montgomery, Jennifer Simmons (James), Kimberly Slaughter (Michael); grandchildren, Michael Montgomery, Brandon Montgomery, Jadon Montgomery, Darniska Montgomery, Addison Simmons, Donovan Simmons and Nicholas Slaughter. Jerry leaves many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will always miss him dearly.
