Mr. James Moorer Sr.

On December 28, 1920, JAMES “JIMMY” TAYLOR MOORER was born to Walter Moorer and Lillie Flood Moorer in Perry County, Alabama. He was one of 13 children from this loving union. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on May 1, 2020. He was 99 years old. Preceding him in death were his parents and 11 brothers and sisters. Jimmy married Carrie Lou DeShields on March 5, 1945. From this loving union, they were blessed with four children, Jeanette, James “Buddy,” Jean and Jerry “Mike.” He and Carrie enjoyed 55 years of marriage prior to her death in October, 2000. Jimmy worked for Ford Motor Company from 1947 to 1977, retiring after 30 years. He often joked that he … “wanted to be retired at least as long as I worked.” He enjoyed 42 wonderful years of retirement. Another of his favorite things to say was “you can say anything you want as long as you don’t say anything negative about Detroit or Ford Motor Company.” Jimmy’s many interests included sports, music and current events, but his favorite pastime was playing cards. He spent many evenings, flirting with the ladies who he referred to as “My Baby,” and playing cards with his friends at the Parks at Franklin Senior Living Apartments, where he lived for over 10 years. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: Sister: Aldonia Hood; children: Jeanette Agnew, James (Janie) Moorer, Jean (Greg) Hughey, and Jerry (Nejla) Moorer; grandchildren: Jerome (Tami) Moorer, Jacqueline (Devolza) Walker, James Michael (Nancy) Agnew, Jason Moorer, Jennifer (Walter) Malone, Dorian (Gloria) Young, Tauri (Darrow II) Harden, Lawrence (Kendre) Young, Gregory (Silvia) Hughey, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Jason, Jr., Julius, Jonovan, Jalen, Jordan, Jocelyn, Jayde, Jayla, Joel, Jaisa, Emil, Sameya, Tamira, Darrow III, Aidan, Rowan, Brandon J., Kirrshay and Chantae (Josh) Sheldon; great-great-grandchildren: Olivia, Hailei, Juliana, Julius, Jr., and Darius: as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. I am the resurrection, and the life; He that believeth in me, though he were dead, Yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” John 11:25-26 Granddaddy/Gramps, Thank you for every challenge, advice, encouragement, request, value, blueprint, act of service and love expressed to all of us. Having you so long has been more than a blessing, but a necessity at times. May you and Grandma forever rest in knowing how much you are cherished, how deeply you are loved and how grateful we will always be.
