Grace was born to Oha Andrew Ndeze Okwu and Cecilia Onumaraekwu Okwu in Egbu-Owerri, IMO State, Nigeria. She had her primary and secondary education at Government Trade College, Aba, Abia, State, Nigeria in the 1970s. She became the Catering Manager of an international consortium that built the Yola Airport of the then-nascent Gongola State, Nigeria. Grace left Yola to further her education in the United States of America in 1981. She graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Southern Connecticut University in New Haven, Connecticut, USA in 1985. She thereafter worked for an automotive parts manufacturing company, ECHLIN, from 1985 to 1991. On May 10, 1991, she gave birth to her twin babies, Charles Chima Okwu and Charlene Chioma Okwu. Grace, a supremely, loving and dedicated mother henceforth gave her entire life to the raising of these twins. As a single mother, she went through many vicissitudes emanating from raising the twins and bore them with resilience, dedication, and unparalleled love. In 1998, her brother, Engr. Julius Jocyleen Okwu, moved her and her twins to Southfield, Michigan, where as part of a cohesive family unit, she continued to raise and love her children, nieces, and nephews here, and support those in Nigeria. Grace gave her all to all. Though quiet and introverted, she radiated a very positive ambiance whenever she was in the company of people. She strongly stood for her personal rights as well as the rights of others, and gave, as she demanded, respect to and from people accordingly. TO WIT, Grace will vehemently insist on getting her full name: GRACE CHIZOMAM NGOZI OKWU (aka Grace C. N. OKWU) into any official document even if you had to modify the name tab format. This was a result of her accounts being compromised sometime in the past. The whole Okwu family and friends deeply mourn the passing of Grace, as we long to have a daughter, mother, sister, and friend like Grace in the world to come. May her gentle, kind, dedicated, loving, God-fearing, and seeking soul rest in perfect peace of the ever-living and loving Lord. Amen.
