Donald Ray Reed

Donald Reed made his transition on July 28, 2026. Please take a moment to leave comforting words of condolences for his family. Donald R. Reed was born on October 17, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, to John and Corine Reed, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the fourth of five children born to their union. Donald attended Detroit's Northwestern High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He served honorably as an Artillery Officer and received an Honorable Discharge in recognition of his faithful military service. Following his military service, Donald began his career with TRW before joining BASF Manufacturing, where he dedicated many years of service until his retirement. At the age of 30, Donald made the life-changing decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His faith became the foundation of his life, guiding the way he loved his family, served others, and carried himself with quiet strength, humility, and grace. On Christmas Day, December 25, 1968, Donald married the love of his life, Roshelle G. Davis. Together they built a marriage rooted in faith, love, and unwavering commitment. Their union was blessed with two sons, two daughters-in-law, and six beloved grandchildren. For more than 57 years, they shared a life rich in love, laughter, family traditions, and cherished memories. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Donald found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams, gathering family and friends for his famous fish fries, and creating memories filled with laughter, fellowship, and good food. As a father, he led with love, wisdom, and quiet strength, providing a solid foundation for his family. To his grandchildren, he was simply Papa or Grandpa. They were the pride and joy of his life, and he treasured every opportunity to be with them. Whether babysitting, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, attending school programs, or simply spending time together, Donald's love surrounded them with warmth, encouragement, and unwavering support. They brought immeasurable joy to his life, just as he was a priceless blessing to theirs. Family was the center of Donald's life. Whether related by blood, marriage, friendship, or simply by the bonds he formed over the years, he made everyone feel like family. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart, and he took great pride in watching each of them grow. His generosity, quiet encouragement, and steadfast love left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. Donald leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 57 years, Roshelle G. Reed; his sons, Sawnawai M. Reed (wife, Cristina; children, Sawnawai Jean-Ahmir, Noa Angelo, Elon Hope and Nola Abrielle) and Lateef V. Reed (wife, Charlene; children, Jaiden Kendall and Julian Ellis); his brother, Charles Reed; his sister, Doris Davis; his nieces and nephews, Adrian, Byron, Cheryl, Michael, Yolanda, Alicia, Lolita, Monique, and Melvin; and a host of extended family members, lifelong friends, neighbors, and those who became family through love. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Corine Reed; his brother, John Reed; his sister, Helen Powell; and his niece, Tina. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Donald's legacy of faith, service, kindness, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the lives of those he touched. His gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast devotion to family will never be forgotten. "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me."
