Derrick Hill

Derrick (Rick) Lamont Hill, was born January 12, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan to John Eskridge and Lillian Hill. Rick accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Northwestern High School in the Detroit Public School system. While in high school, Rick matured and earned his diploma and immediately began working in the automotive industry. He had the opportunity to work with his father and several of his siblings in his first job. He was a versatile man and enjoyed many career opportunities throughout his life. He retired from Chrysler and Roadway before deciding to become an entrepreneur and open his own business. He owned and operated Little Mary’s River Inn for nearly 13 years. He created a safe, nice, and fun-loving environment that allowed people to gather and socialize. Derrick was truly blessed, he lived a life of great triumphs and struggles, but he always managed to spread love and encouragement. He loved spending time with friends and family, discussing politics and sports. He was an intelligent man and loved having profound conversations regarding just about any topic. Not only was he a thinker, Derrick loved working with his hands. He was always willing to give a helping hand to a friend. No matter if it were to change a flat tire or replace a roof on houses. His loving bond with his mother was unconditional; he was always attentive to her needs and wants. Listening to music and watching old western movies were a couple of his pastimes. He developed a new interest in playing golf but playing a great game of pool was his passion. Rick departed this life on Sunday, September 5, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lillian, his sister Rita, and brother Douglas (Sonny). He leaves to cherish his memory to his fiancé, Stefanie; his two children, Derrick and Shaneisha (Nathaniel Sr); two grandchildren, Gabriella and Nathaniel Jr; siblings, Beverly, Sonja, Linda, Jonathan, Catherine, and Gerald (Kimberly); a surrogate daughter, Jameta Branch and a wealth of other treasured nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, all who will miss him dearly.
