Mrs. Catherine Brooks

Catherine Brooks, 90 years of age made her transition at home in Detroit, Michigan on February 28, 2023. She was born Catherine McCoy to Eva Maxwell and James McCoy in Travelers Rest, South Carolina on December 29, 1932. Catherine was the youngest of four children. She was a mischievous child known to speak her mind regardless of the consequences. In 1953 Catherine, her sister Frances and her mother Eva relocated from Taylors, South Carolina to Buffalo, New York, where they lived for a time with sister Grace and her family. In 1957 she married the love of her life Alvin Brooks. They were married for 65 years, and this union welcomed four children. Catherine was a wonderful homemaker, excellent cook, baker, and decorator. She enjoyed making ceramics and floral arrangements. She had a passion for fashion and was known for her sense of style. Her favorite accessory was her beautiful hats, and her favorite color was black. Catherine loved her children, grandchildren, and doted on her great grandchildren. During the last stages of her life, she would often call out the names of her great grandbabies. Catherine worked for General Motors Parts Division and retired in 1997. While there she made many lifelong friends. She was a longtime member of El Bethel Church and served on the Culinary Arts and Beautification ministry. Catherine loved El Bethel Church! She truly adored and appreciated the many friends she gained during her membership. She leaves to cherish her memory: her four children: Kaven (Lois) McCoy, who preceded her in death, Teena (Roscoe) Thomas, Tracy Brady, and Trent (Rebecca) Brooks; nine grandchildren: Shawntee (DeLon), Damon (Tasha), Ian, Evan, Dasha, Aldrine, Trenese, Ashley, and Shanel, seven great-grandchildren; Shawn, Antonio, Chammond, Damon Jr (DJ), Carrington, Troi and Anair. Adopted children Cheryl Parker, Mildred Morris and the Walton Family and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Brooks, parents: Eva and James McCoy, her siblings: Grace Ferguson, Charles Robert McCoy, and Frances Graham.
