Carl Edward Brown

On May 19, 1933, in Detroit, MI, Carl Edward Brown was born from the union of George and Myrtle (Crumpton) Brown. On January 29, 2026, at 9:10 AM, he transitioned peacefully at the age of 92. Carl was the youngest of four siblings to Roslie (McMillian), Patricia (Brandom), and James Brown. After graduating from Cass Technical High School in Detroit, MI, he served in the United States Army, where he earned an honorable discharge. Afterwards, he gained employment with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) formerly known as “Michigan Bell”. He started as a lineman and ascended to various management positions before he retired after 35 years. Carl enjoyed traveling. His travels included destinations, such as the Caribbean Islands, St. John, Barbados, and St. Maarten. He also enjoyed coaching Hockey for many years through the Detroit Police Athletic League (Detroit PAL). In his retirement years, he continued to coach hockey and spent immense time among his family and friends. His love for “tinkering” and helping others led him to establish a small electrical business, where he developed a loyal following of customers and was known for his excellent customer service and quality workmanship. His propensity for handyman work and customer service extended to his work as a Salesman at Home Depot, where he continued to assist others for several years. Carl was a family man who was extremely proud and enjoyed close relationships with his three adult children, Eric, Christa, and Carl “Chip”, as well as his adoptive daughter, Gaylynne Brown, his daughter-in-law, Sarah, and granddaughter, Charlotte. He enjoyed spending time with his small, loving cadre of friends, sharing life events, at times traveling with, and watching sport events. He was also an avid dog lover and enjoyed walking and caring for his family dogs named Casper, Clyde, Missy and Naughty. In addition, he enjoyed the company of his neighbors and other extended family members. Carl will surely be missed by his loved ones, who will find comfort in fond memories of his fierce devotion and love for them all. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, George and Myrtle (Crumpton) Brown, siblings Roslie (McMillian), Patricia (Brandom), and James Brown. His life will forever be cherished by his children, Eric, Christa, Carl (Sarah), Gaylynne, granddaughter Charlotte, and a host of family, friends, and neighbors.
