Sadie Belle Guinn

SADIE BELLE GUINN Sadie was born on January 29, 1936 in Perry County, AL to James Tas and Bessie Fuller. She was the sixth of eight children. Sadie was baptized as Baptist at an early age. She attended school in Thomasville, AL and graduated from Thomasville High School. At 19, she migrated to Detroit, MI. While working a variety of jobs, she attended business school at night. After receiving her certificate, she began working as a secretary for an insurance adjuster and a contractor. After starting her career, Sadie married. She had four children. As she worked and raised a family, Sadie earned her license as an insurance adjuster in the early ‘70’s. She became the first black female insurance adjuster in the state of Michigan. She was later promoted to partner with Reliable Fire Loss Adjusting Company. In 1984, Sadie started her own company, United Fire Loss Adjusting Company. She would work as an owner/operator until her retirement at 80 years of age in 2016! Sadie converted to Catholicism in 1972. She joined St. Alphonsus Catholic church where she was a parishioner and her children attended school until 1988. Sadie then joined The Catholic Church of the Madonna. Sadie remained a faithful Catholic until she was called Home. Sadie loved gardening, church ministry at the Church of the Madonna in Detroit (now St. Moses), volunteering for various charities, casinos, shopping, word searches and especially traveling. Sadie transcended to glory on January 28, 2019, on the eve of her 83rd birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents James Tas and Bessie Fuller as well as her five older siblings: John Fuller, William Fuller, Dorothy King, Mary Blackmon and Emma Jean Waites. To cherish her memory, Sadie leaves her four children: Jacqueline Fuller Malcom of Farmington Hills, MI, Ernest ‘Buddy’ Guinn of Long Beach, CA, Wanda (Eugene) Carter of Southfield, MI and Gregory Guinn of Montgomery Village, MD, four grandchildren: Antoine Morrison, Qiana Holmes, Layla Hurst and Brittany Carter; four great grandchildren: William, Antanai and Deongelo Morrison and Qiana Holmes, Jr., two younger siblings, Edna Jackson of Ferndale, MI and Andrew (Dorothy) Fuller of Huntsville, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
